My mini macaw seems to know. I was mad at her one night (for bratty behavior) and told her that she was green because she was full of snot. This was something I had never said to her. She replies, loudly, “I am not snot!” Snot, of course, was not a word that she had heard before. However, she knew I was insulting her! Another time, a news report was talking about a child abuser. My mother commented to me “What should happen to someone like that?” The bird is on my knee, and says clearly “Kill him”. These are words that she has never said before. I said “Baby, what did you say?” And she says again, “Kill him”. Which was funny and scary at the same time! She is over 30 years old and will still surprise me with new quips. A few weeks ago, I had a black mud masque on my face. My husband was moving her cage to her nighttime spot and brought her into the bedroom. He looked at me and said “Gabby, did you black Mom’s eyes? “ She was looking intently at me, and said quietly “I dinnint do dat.” Yeah, her speech is sometimes slurred. But, she laughed with us after that. And, I was pretty sure that she thought she was funny also.
She also rats out the cats when they are being sneaky, by yelling “Hey! What’s up? What’s happening?” That’s when I know to check out some bad kitties.
